How you can support the AETA4
Thanks to everyone who recently added us as a friend, and all who have showed their support in various ways in the past month.
As ridiculous as these charges are, they will take tens of thousands of dollars to fight.
The four individuals - Adriana Stumpo, Joseph Buddenberg, Nathan Pope, and
Maryam Khajavi - will need help paying for attorneys and for other costs associated with the (possibly) long legal battle ahead.
Please consider organizing a benefit, or if you have extra funds, consider
donating (even if it's as little as 5 dollars - everything helps!)

Your actions and those of thousands of other Care2 activists resulted in many recent successes. Thank you for helping to make the world a better place.
US Environmental Protection Agency Objects to 5 Mountaintop Mining Projects
Over 100,000 of you took action to end mining projects that involve the blasting away of entire peaks, and then dumping millions of tons of waste rock in the valleys below, causing permanent damage to the ecosystem. We campaigned with our partners, Sierra Club, EarthJustice, and Appalachian Voices on these issues for several years. The EPA has now objected to 5 different permit applications because of concerns that the projects would threaten water quality, and has asked the Army Corps of Engineers to place holds on the projects. This is not a complete victory, but is a very positive first step.
US Senate and House Pass the Serve America Act
Over 7,400 Care2 activists joined with our nonprofit partner, Civic Ventures, to urge the US Senate and President Obama to pass the Serve America Act, the largest expansion of government-subsidized public service since the creation of the Peace Corps. The bill creates 175,000 new opportunities for young people and retirees to volunteer at home and abroad, feeding the hungry, greening communities, helping students in school, and more. The US House and Senate passed the bill, and President Obama is expected to sign the bill into law on April 21st.
The Latest Attack on Roe v. Wade defeated in North Dakota
A bill was introduced in North Dakota that would define a fertilized human egg as a person. This was widely viewed as a vehicle to challenge the US Supreme Court's 1973 decision legalizing abortion. 3,300 of you took action, and the bill was defeated in the North Dakota Senate on April 3rd.
EPA Presses Obama to Regulate Global Warming Under the Clean Air Act
The EPA submitted a finding to the White House Office of Management and Budget that greenhouse gas emissions endanger the public's health and welfare, and should be regulated under the Clean Air Act. The finding reverses a key Bush Administration decision on global warming. In conjunction with EarthJustice, we pressed the EPA to make this decision. A big thank you to EarthJustice and the 9,300 Care2 activists who contacted the EPA.
